Guillaume de Moucheron .. Merchant and Interpreter
Guillaume de Moucheron does not appear very many times in The Protestant parish registers of La Rochelle, I find only a scarce few. His life has been to date rather elusive to document. I know he was born and baptized in La Rochelle in 1632, that he apparently left the city and returned with his wife Henriette de Court around 1656. and yet had not a single child baptized there. I do find two burial records for his infant children in 1659 and 1660, but nothing else. Recently I discovered Guillaume served as an interpreter between English and Irish Merchants dealing with Merchants in La Rochelle. Here are a few references to some of his commissions...
He surely had an interesting life, and was well traveled evidently. He spoke English, Dutch and French and was well educated (as a de Moucheron that was a given). After the marriage of his daughter Marie in 1682 (from this document we have his signature above) he seems to vanish from the records. His wife Henriette de Court died in 1677, and I find no reference to a second marriage. What became of Guillaume? Someday I shall discover his fate.
